Scouting out the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards – but not yet put your entry together?

The Sports Journalists’ Association is hosting a free interactive webinar on Tuesday 7 January 2025 that will provide some valuable advice. Sign up here!

Every year, hundreds of submissions are made from across sports media for our industry’s most prestigious awards. Read about our most recent awards night, when we celebrated the best of 2023.

Take a look back at the highlights of our last Sports Journalism Awards event in March 2024!

Making it onto a category shortlist is the initial target for entrants – so what can help you stand out from the crowd?

On our workshop, we’ll be joined by leading figures from within each specialist section, including…

  • Molly Darlington, winner of the Olympic / Paralympic Portfolio and Young Photographer categories at the 2021 edition of the SJA Awards
  • Laurie Palacio, managing director of Tongue Tied Management and former deputy head of multi-award-winning broadcaster talkSPORT
  • Andrew Spence, award-winning producer, broadcaster and SJA committee member
  • Heather Dewar, Scotland’s Sports News Writer of the Year in 2022 and 2024 and shortlisted for Sports News Reporter at last year’s SJA Awards

Our guests will speak from their experience about how to assess the various categories; what to consider when selecting from your output; how to make your citations pop!; and what’s new at the upcoming edition of the Awards.

They’ll also be on hand to answer your burning questions towards the end of the hour-long webinar.

The entry deadline is midnight on Wednesday 15 January 2025. Expert judges will whittle down each category to a shortlist, with awards night itself to be held in November on Monday 24 March.

You may be eligible to pay a reduced price or even have your entry fee waived. Check out our Diversity criteria to learn more.

Whether you’re a seasoned entrant or a first-time hopeful, our webinar will give you all the tools to stand out from the hundreds of submissions competing for sports media’s highest honours.

Sign up here for the Zoom workshop on Tuesday 7 January 2025, beginning at 6pm promptly.
